SEEING YOURSELF ON TV IS THE WORST...

Uploading the video to youtube and letting the entire world witness the trainwreck is worster. Here's the thing, I went to that MINICOMICPOLOOZA yesterday and all was going fine, until the local news station showed up.

A lil' tidbit that you're probably going to be shocked to find out, is that a LOT of comic artists and writers are shy mother fuckers who suuuuuure as shit don't want to be on TV. So when the reporter is like, "So who wants to say a little something about mini comics for the camera?" Everyone is like..."Um...not me...but you know, Travis has a big mouth and likes to hear himself speak!" I desperately tried to get Joel (the comic shop owner) to step in, but in the end I was the sacrificial lamb.

One more bit that I honestly cannot stress enough. My comic is titled "FOXYMORON." ONE FUCKING WORD!!! What is so hard to figure out about that?! It's a god damn pun of the word "oxymoron." My last name is Fox! I'm not saying I'm sexy, yet stupid therefore needing two words to describe myself, it's SIMPLY A PUN!!! I've done this damn comic for over a decade and still to this day people want to break the title in half...case in point, this news story:

And seriously...could I look any fucking fatter? I swear to Christ I didn't eat an entire bag of marshmallows before doing this interview. Just half the bag.

ROCK on, Travis!

Way to speak for the brotherhood!

Sorry I missed hanging out with you. We have to get together some time and just talk for awhile.

Nice job.

Travis,

Thanks for taking one for the team. I think your quote was really good and I'd rather you look fat than I (which I don't think you do) on camera. I have to look fat every day, so why capture that glory for myself on film? No thanks! :)

Anyway, I really want to put this video on the store website, so how would I go about doing that? Do you know?

P.S. thanks for coming out and it was great meeting you...glad you liked the shop.

thanks guys.

Joel--just double click on the video and the youtube website should pop up. Then copy and paste the "embedded" code onto your site. It's super easy, obviously, since I posted it here!

Right on man! I understand your self-loathing reaction to seeing yourself on film - I have been there and it ain't pretty - but you did a great job and it fucking rules that you guys got on the news! I am definately looking forward to working with you on this anthology project! Oh and I have something else exciting to tell you soon as well!

Thanks again...

Ryan- Sounds interesting...unless this "Exciting new project" is a nude mud wrestling competition. Cause I'm not driving to Georgia for that...

Noir- Yeah I'm probably coming to APE. Although I might stay with your ass instead of Hippy McGee this time. And did you notice the ALLSTAR minis on the table? I still have a few lying around...

Zach- What? I don't remember seeing any United Front's on that table?! :)

Oh, so you aren't into participating in nude mud wrestling competitions?

-sigh- Back to the drawing board!

Yeah, dude, isn't it time you dropped that pregnancy weight? And the Maynard G. Krebs beard is so Horde Tour.

I was going to note the cross-eyed broadcaster, too. Where the hell do you live again?! Are there kids playing banjoes in the trees?

I'm glad you talked to news people, because otherwise I would have been tempted to do it, and I would have said something fatalistic and depressing. Like that some of us *do* hope to make some money off minicomics!

yeah, the cross-eyed girl...how sad. we also have regional fast food commercials narrated by a woman with a pronounced sibilance. ahhh...sweet, sweet Kansas. the newscast is from Lawrence, KS...and the sad thing is that we are the more metropolitan of the cities in this fair state.

There were punchthroat anthos and I did the cover art for the alice in wonderland all-star mini...

Jamie, I take the "Horde Tour" dis as a compliment because I miss that sucker! So nyah! :P

John, I love your comics and who knows, maybe you'll be the ONE who finally is able to make a living off this shit!

Joel, do you guys get the Kansas City news stations as well? Or is it all the "local" coverage?

And Zach, I know that you were in those, I was just giving you shit! Legally I don't think one can print up an anthology without having your artwork SOMEWHERE inside...
