HEY, VIDEO GAME NERDS!!!
Circuit City has a MASSIVE video game sale that "officially" starts on July 2nd, but some stores already have these titles marked down on the shelf.
Keep in mind, this is a full list, but the stores will probably not have most of these titles any longer. So don't come crying to me when you drive all the way there and realize they're all sold out of "Barbie Let's Ride"

SPIDER-MAN 3
As you know, I haven't been the biggest fan of previous Spider-Man films. But this teaser trailer looks promising. (Of course, if you can't make a movie look cool in under 2 minutes, you officially suck.)
BURNIN' THE FLAG, BURNIN' THE FLAG...
This week our Senators are going to vote to pass a "flag-burning amendment" to the Constitution. Then, late next week, they plan on passing a "Puppies are adorable" amendment and, if they have time, a slightly controversal "Miller Light is indeed Less Filling and not Tastes Great" amendment. Like I said, only if they have time.
If you're one of those, "But...but Travis, burning our flag is HORRRRRRIBLE and it SHOULD be in the Constitution" types, just keep reading.
See, I was curious to see exactly how many cases of flag-burning happened last year. I mean, if it's truly "out of hand" and "in need of our Senator's assistance" it's got to be in the hundreds...if not thousands...right?
Sure enough, flag-burning was on the rise this year. In fact, it jumped 33% from last year!
SHOCK!!!
AWE!!!
Yes, the number of flag-burning incidents has jumped to FOUR, from THREE.
...wait...four?! FOUR CASES?! We need a flag-burning AMENDMENT TO THE CONSTITUTION because something happens four times a year?!
But it'll pass. Our spineless Senators don't want to vote against something like "BURNING THE AMERICAN FLAG" and have that thrown at them when re-election time comes rolling around.
Then, after it passes, the sky will open up, Jesus will come down, lions and lambs will lay down in peace and Iraq will still be falling apart, North Korea will still be crazier than shit, Iran will still be building nukes, our education system and health care system will be in the toilet, and our enviroment will still be crumbling.
...but...but our precious flag will be SAVED!!!!!!
POOR RUSH...
Limbaugh held for having Viagra without prescription
WEST PALM BEACH, Florida (AP) -- Rush Limbaugh was detained for about 3 1/2 hours at Palm Beach International Airport after authorities said they found a bottle of Viagra in his possession without a prescription.
The 55-year-old radio commentator's luggage was examined by U.S. Customs and Border Protection after his private plane landed at the airport around 2 p.m. from the Dominican Republic, said Paul Miller, spokesman for the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office.
Customs officials found in Limbaugh's luggage a prescription bottle labeled as Viagra, a prescription drug that treats erectile disfunction, Miller said.
(HERE'S THE BEST PART...)
A doctor had prescribed the drug, but it was "labeled as being issued to the physician rather than Mr. Limbaugh for privacy purposes," Roy Black, Limbaugh's attorney, said in a statement.
(How's THAT working out for you?!)

BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN, AMERICAN HERO.
Okay, maybe that's a lil' over the top, but check out this clip of him and Soledad O'Brien on CNN this morning. He stands up for musicans and artists who "speak out" and get involved with politics.
Best part is when he mentions, "...present company included..." OUCH.
transcript:
O’BRIEN: In 2004 you came out very strongly in support of John Kerry and performed with him - your fellow guitarist, I think is how you introduced him to the crowd. And some people gave you a lot of flack for being a musician who took a political stand. I remember…
SPRINGSTEEN: Yeah, they should let Ann Coulter do it instead.
O’BRIEN: There is a whole school of thought, as you well know, that says that musicians – I mean you see it with the Dixie Chicks - you know, go play your music and stop.
SPRINGSTEEN: Well, if you turn it on, present company included, the idiots rambling on on cable television on any given night of the week, and you’re saying that musicians shouldn’t speak up? It’s insane. It’s funny.
O’BRIEN: As a musician though, I’d be curious to know if there is a concern that you start talking about politics, you came out at one point and said, I think in USA Today listen, the country would be better off if George Bush were replaced as President. Is there a worry where you start getting political and you could alienate your audience?
SPRINGSTEEN: Well that’s called common sense. I don’t even see that as politics at this point. So I mean that’s, you know, you can get me started, I’ll be glad to go. […] You don’t take a country like the United States into a major war on circumstantial evidence. You lose your job for that. That’s my opinion, and I have no problem voicing it. And some people like it and some people boo ya, you know?
If you haven't bought The Seeger Sessions, you don't know what you're missing...

EVER TRIED TO CANCEL AOL?!
I did about five years ago and went through pretty much the same routine. It's a fucking nightmare! Luckily, this guy recorded his experience and now AOL is in some hot water.
The best part is that AOL says that the customer service rep was out of line and that he lost his job because of it. Then, after doing a story about this very incident, CNBC tries to get one of their producers to cancel HIS account and gets the run-around for 45 MINUTES!

DEAD MAN WALKING SOUNDTRACK * LEGACY EDITON
"Dead Man Walking," Bruce Springsteen
"In Your Mind," Johnny Cash
"Woman on the Tier (I'll See You Through)," Suzanne Vega
"Promises," Lyle Lovett
"The Face of Love," Eddie Vedder and Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan
"The Fall of Troy," Tom Waits
"Quality of Mercy," Michelle Shocked
"Dead Man Walking (A Dream Like This)," Mary Chapin Carpenter
"Walk Away," Tom Waits
"Ellis Unit One," Steve Earle
"Walkin' Blind," Patti Smith
"The Long Road," Eddie Vedder and Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan
"Dead Man," Eddie Vedder
Quite possibly the greatest soundtrack ever...well, Wonder Boys is pretty damn good, but I discovered so many amazing artists when I bought this for the first time back in 1995. Tom Waits, Steve Earle, Lyle Lovett. I'll admit, I picked it up simply because back then I would buy ANYTHING that Eddie Vedder was doing a song or two on. But man, my life changed for the better after I heard Lyle Lovett sing "Promises." The sadness that fills every silent pause. The way he sings as if he, himself is on death row. It's as powerful as the film itself.
If God is my witness
Then God is my savior
But if you are my judge
Then I'm already damned
And words are like poison
That sinks down inside you
And some things you do
You just don't understand
And would if my fingers
To cut off and give you
Could gain my redemption
I'd cut off my hands
But words are like poison
That bends you and blinds you
And some things you do
You just don't understand
Listening to Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan and Eddie Vedder on "Long Road" is another beautiful moment I'll never forget. I had already heard him and Neil Young perform it on Merkinball but adding Indian chants really takes it into the realm of the after-life.
If you have never picked up this album before, please, do yourself a favor and grab this Legacy Editon on your way home. It's remastered and comes with a DVD of the 1998 NOT IN OUR NAME concert. Although, (I'm guessing for legal reasons) Tom Waits' performance is totally removed, it's still an impressive line-up:
"Ellis Unit One," Steve Earle
"Promises," Lyle Lovett
"L.A. County," Lyle Lovett
"Lungs," Lyle Lovett with Steve Earle
"Crime for Crime," Ani DiFranco
"Up up up up up up," Ani DiFranco
"Fuel," Ani DiFranco
"Walk Away," Tom Waits (NOPE)
"Gun Street," Tom Waits (NOPE)
"The Fall of Troy," Tom Waits (NOPE)
"Goin' Out West," Tom Waits (NOPE)
"Yesterday Is Here," Tom Waits (NOPE)
"Trouble," Eddie Vedder
"Dead Man Walking," Eddie Vedder with Jeff Ament
"The Long Road," Vedder, Ament, Rahat Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, Dilder Hussein, John Densmore, David Robbins
"The Face of Love," Vedder, Ament, Rahat Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, Dilder Hussein, John Densmore, David Robbins
"The Ballad of Billy Austin," Steve Earle

NEW TOM PETTY!
I tend to prefer Tom Petty's solo work to his "And The Heartbreakers" stuff. Plus, it's produced by the LEGEND Rick Rubin, so you know it's at least quality...
Tom Petty-Saving Grace (STREAM)
Yes, it steals the hook from ZZ TOP's "La Grange" but dammit, it's still catchy.

I GET MORE WORK...
I was lucky enough to be one of eight Kansas City artists to draw up a Superman comic just in time for Superman Returns. It'll run in a special "pull-out" section of the Kansas City Star the week of June 26th. Expect the "yellow stream" to be taken out of the actual version though. My editor wrote me an email that basically stated, "Yee. Super-peeing. I'm not sure that's going to fly...but thanks again for lowering the bar of journalistic excellence."

BORAT THE MOVIE! YES!
Here's the trailer to what I guarantee will be the funniest movie of the year...if not ever.
Those of you unfamilar with Borat (or the Ali G Show on HBO) should check out his website.
Or, at the very least, watch these clips and laugh your ass off. (some might not be work-safe.) "American Football" and "Hunting" are two of the best.

APPLE TO BUY NINTENDO?!
Wow...this is just a rumor...but a damn fine one at that!!!
*****
Online conspiracy theorists suggest that Apple is about to frag the gaming community with a revelation that could shake Microsoft to its core: Apple will buy Nintendo. What could be more quintessentially left-field Apple behaviour than buying out the US's number three games console manufacturer?
Between howling at the moon, these looneys point to the similar corporate philosophies of Apple and Nintendo (bull-headed determination in the face of defeat); the similar consumer perception of the companies (both have followings whose brand dedication verges on the religiously devout); the similar design styles (the Nintendo DS Lite practically looks like Jonathan Ive built it); and the complementary market spaces (Apple wants games, Nintendo wants style). But somewhere in the looney's mind, is there a scintilla of logic? A tiny fragment of truth spluttering for breath in the soup of madness? Could Apple actually buy Nintendo, and more importantly, why would it want to?
(snip)
Consider this: the Mac Mini currently retails for not much more than the forthcoming Sony PlayStation 3 will. The Mac Mini can play high-definition video, edit music and photographs, surf the Web, word process and edit video -- things no console can currently do well, if at all. The Mini also runs Apple's extremely robust OS X operating system. What if the Mini could also play Nintendo games? And not just play Nintendo games, but play Nintendo games specifically tailored to the strengths of the Mac Mini's hardware? Would Apple have a viable console on its hands? And if so, could it penetrate the mainstream consumer market with Macintosh computers in a way that has constantly eluded it in the past?
The newsgroups are constantly awash with the dregs of idle wondering, but the Apple and Nintendo partnership is one rumour we can't help hoping is true. The Pippin was the company's biggest disgrace -- how delightful if Apple were to get Mario to redeem its games strategy a full decade on.

NEW WEIRD AL!!!
Don't make that face, you know you wanna hear it! Actually it's a song that's NOT going to be on his upcoming record, so this will basically be the only place you can hear it. It's a parody of You're Beautiful by James Blunt. Gag. I hated that fucking song the instant I heard it and honestly listening to Weird Al covering it isn't exactly the best way I could spend my afternoon.
...but it is funny.
I love how he worked in the "false start" just like the real song does. And how, just how can you NOT LOVE the line, "Never had a date, that you couldn't inflate..."

RUSS FEINGOLD ON THE FEDERAL MARRIAGE AMMENDMENT
Can't this man be President yet?!
*****
A Shameful Political Ploy by Senator Russ Feingold
Tue Jun 06, 2006 at 07:59:13 AM PDT
The federal marriage amendment, which would write discrimination into the Constitution, is an obvious attempt to change the subject from topics that the Congress should be addressing to a hot button social issue intended to appeal to certain factions. On Wednesday, Senate Majority Leader Frist plans to hold a vote on this mean-spirited proposal. It has no chance of receiving the two-thirds majority required for constitutional amendments. The only thing bringing it up now will accomplish is to push Congress further away from the issues it should be addressing and engage the Senate of the United States in a shameful political ploy.
The last thing we should be doing right now is playing politics with the Constitution, or with the lives of gay and lesbian Americans, who see this proposal for what it is - discrimination, pure and simple. Gay and lesbian Americans are our friends, our family members, our neighbors, and our colleagues. They should not be used as pawns in a political exercise.
Backers of the proposal say they want to support marriage. But this debate is not about supporting marriage. Everyone agrees that good and strong marriages should be supported and celebrated. The debate in the Senate is also not about whether states should permit same sex marriage. I happen to believe that two adults who love each other and want to make a lifelong commitment to each other with all of the responsibilities that commitment entails should be able to do so. Others may disagree. But the Senate debate is about whether we should amend the Constitution of the United States to try to define marriage, and restrict, rather than expand, the rights of our citizens. The answer to that question has to be "no."
It's deeply disappointing to see the Senate consider this proposed constitutional amendment, and for such cynical reasons. But it's not enough to just shake our heads at what the Republicans are doing here. I applaud people in the online community for standing up and speaking out against this proposal. This attempt to pass this constitutional amendment isn't about values. It's an attempt to stir up prejudice and fear, but I think it's going to stir up something else - outrage at Republican leaders. The proposal itself is an outrage, and so is its consideration at the expense of so many other important issues, from health care to gasoline prices to Iraq.
A colleague of mine asked me if I was taking a lot of heat for announcing my support for the right of gays and lesbians to marry. And, frankly, the question doesn't surprise me because I suppose many of my colleagues might be wary of taking a strong stand on an issue meant to divide Americans. The Washington Post today called this "a tricky issue for Democrats" but it doesn't have to be. All Americans should stand up and say no to the federal marriage amendment, no to discrimination targeted at some of our finest citizens, and no to this narrow-minded attempt to score political points in an election year.
Thanks for the opportunity to pass on some of my thoughts on this issue. I look forward to reading your comments.

The devil is real and she even has a book out today to prove it.
Watch this clip of Ann Coulter on The Today Show this morning and roll your eyes as she spews evil filth like, "These broads are millionaires, lionized on TV and in articles about them, reveling in their status as celebrities and stalked by griefparrazies. I have never seen people enjoying their husband’s death so much."
Who the fuck would she be saying such horrible, nasty things about?!
...that would be the widows of 9/11.

SACRED INSTITUTION OF MARRIAGE...
I'll be blogging all week long about this bullshit Federal Marriage Ammendment that has ZERO CHANCE of passing and is simply a fucking wedge issue to rally the Religous Right and Conservatives from tearing the President apart over his immigration stand.
...buuuuuuuuuuut right now I'd like to share with you a lil' transcript of my conversation with Missouri Senator Kit Bond's office about ten minutes ago.
ME: Yeah, I was just wondering how the Senator was going to be voting on the upcoming Federal Marriage Ammendment?
19 YEAR OLD SECRETARY: Well...
You know, the one that bans gay marriage.
The Senator has traditionally felt that marrige should be defined between one man and one woman.
So he's going to vote for the Constitutional Ammendment to keep homosexuals from being able to marry?
I don't see why he wouldn't.
Is he voting that way because he believes that homosexuals being able to marry one another would be an attack on the sacred, SACRED institution of marriage?
Correct. Traditionally he's viewed that marriage should only be between one man and one woman.
And that marriage is a SACRED institution?
Correct.
Well, how exactly does the Senator reconcile that with the fact that he divorced his first wife back in 1995?
Um...
I mean, since it's sacred and all...
Well, I see you're calling from Kansas so have a nice day. *CLICK!*
Yep. Hung up on me cause I was calling from Kansas. I live in Missouri and work in Kansas. Don't think I won't be calling back on my day off. I want to hear them try and explain that to me. (Even though there's no way they can. He's a bloody hypocrite.)
Do YOU have a Senator who's either divorced (Assistant Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (Ky.), Sen. John Warner (Va.), Sen. Kit Bond (Mo.), Sen. Ben Nighthorse Campbell (Colo.), Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison (Texas) and Sen. John McCain (Ariz.)) or even worse...SINGLE (Lindsey Graham (S.C.) and Susan Collins (Maine))?!
Give them a call and tell them that if they stay the fuck out of OUR private lives, we'll stay the fuck out of theirs.

2ND ROW, BITCHES...
Molly and I went to our (10th, 11th?!) Dave Matthews Band concert last Wednesday. We used to, (ie...before mr. stoopid babyhead entered the picture) go to both the St. Louis show AND the Kansas City one, but as of late have chose either-or. I've been in their "fan club" since 1998 and usually get pretty damn good seats, this one we sat in row 2. Not even a "letter" row. FUCKING ROW TWO! Seeing as how they constantly change their setlists, it's always a treat to see just what they end up playing. Last Wednesday, it was no exception.
SETLIST:
JTR *
What Would You Say?
When The World Ends *
Hunger for the Great Light *
Dancing Nancies *
Warehouse *
Grace is Gone
Raven *
Tripping Billies *
Where Are You Going?
So Much To Say * -->
Too Much *
Smooth Rider *
American Baby Intro *
Louisiana Bayou *
Encore:
Sister +
Crash
Pantala Naga Pampa * -->
Rapunzel *
* Rashawn Ross on Trumpet
+ Dave Solo
But what is a concert without some drunken idiot falling on top of you?!
To be fair, I don't actually know this bastard was drunk. About an hour into the show, he just falls straight forward. Right onto Molly's back. And this isn't just "Oh I lost my balance and tipped forward." This is "Goodnight everyone, I'm laying down on the seats in front of me!" He was huge, about 230 pounds, and he was just simply passed out onto the seats behind us. Molly, I, and the three other people in next to us in our row are all trying to pull him back up to his feet, but he ain't moving. Finally his wife starts screaming for the big guys in her row to do something and ALL OF US finally get him to his feet.
He sits down, shakes his head and then *I shit you not* asks for his beer.
Good times.
Best part of the show was Dave putting on a pair of those dumbass "bug eye" sunglasses all the ladies are wearing nowadays. He ended up wearing them for an entire song and then tossing them back into the audience.

BUY THIS COMIC!!!
And yeah, Josh is a friend of mine and whatever, but it's fucking fantastic. If you've never picked up any of his Skyscrapers, start with the first two. But issue 3 just hit the stores today and is absolutely amazing.
